Why a Postnatal Protein + Vitamin Shake Hasn’t Existed… Until Now

For decades, the shelves have been full of two things: postnatal vitamins and protein shakes. Nobody had thought to put them together, until now. A product designed specifically for new mothers.

The Gap No One Saw

When you have a baby, your body’s needs change drastically. You’re not just recovering from nine months of pregnancy, you’re also:

  • Healing from labour or a c-section

  • Producing nutrient-rich milk (if breastfeeding)

  • Rebuilding muscle and connective tissue

  • Managing extreme fatigue

This isn’t the same as getting back to the gym after a holiday.
Your body is rebuilding from the inside out.

Yet the wellness industry has seen mothers through a narrow lens:

  • Prenatal vitamins during pregnancy? Absolutely.

  • Postnatal vitamins after birth? Yes, but only in pill form.

  • Protein shakes? Only marketed to athletes, gym-goers, or weight-loss plans.

No one joined the dots between protein and postnatal recovery.

Why Protein Matters After Birth

Protein isn’t just for building biceps.

For new mums, it’s essential for:

  • Repairing tissues after childbirth

  • Maintaining energy levels on little sleep

  • Supporting immune function

  • Aiding hormone balance

  • Helping sustain milk supply (for breastfeeding mums)

Clinical guidelines show breastfeeding mothers need 15–25g extra protein every single day — yet most don’t get close to that.

Why? Because life with a newborn rarely leaves time for cooking nutrient-dense meals.
Some days it’s pasta, toast, or whatever you can eat one-handed between feeds.

So Why Didn’t This Product Exist Before?

Honestly? Because no one was looking.
Postnatal care has historically been underfunded, under-researched, and undervalued.
So much attention is given to the baby (and rightly so), but mothers are often left to “get on with it.”

The supplement industry hasn’t prioritised postpartum recovery in the same way it has sports performance or weight loss.
And protein brands? They never considered that a mum recovering from a c-section at 3am might need a shake more than someone hitting the squat rack.

The Birth of Viyva

After my second baby, I experienced this gap first-hand.
I was tired, sore, and struggling to eat well. When I learned how essential protein was for recovery and milk production, I started taking shakes, and felt the difference.
But I couldn’t find one that also contained the full spectrum of postnatal vitamins my body needed.

So I decided to make it.
